Meet the Provider

Alicia MacGowan, LCSW, LAADC

Alicia MacGowan, LCSW, LAADC, brings over three decades of dedicated experience in the field of mental health and addiction therapy. With a career spanning back to 1992, Alicia has been a steadfast advocate for the well-being of her clients. Since 2007, she has operated a thriving private practice, offering compassionate and personalized therapy to individuals seeking healing and growth. She is the Clinical Director and Founder of Positive Counseling Center and Recovery NOW, Inc.

Alicia’s professional journey has been diverse, having worked extensively in psychiatric hospitals, substance abuse treatment centers, and within county mental health programs. This breadth of experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of complex mental health issues and substance use disorders, allowing her to tailor interventions to meet each client’s unique needs.

In her commitment to evolving therapeutic practices, Alicia is embarking on an exciting new path: providing psychedelic assisted therapy. She attended a specialized 10 month credentialing program for psychedelic  therapy studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies to expand her knowledge and training of psychedelic assisted therapy.

She has participated in psilocybin-assisted therapy in Oregon, where this treatment is legally regulated, as well as ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and MDMA-assisted psychotherapy, to deepen her understanding of these modalities and evaluate their potential application in patient care. Through these experiences, she observed clinically meaningful benefits and therapeutic potential. She currently provides integration services and ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and plans to expand her scope of practice to include MDMA-, psilocybin-, and LSD-assisted psychotherapy within a clinical setting once these treatments receive FDA approval and become legally available for therapeutic use.

Alicia looks forward to the opportunity to guide you on your transformative journey.
